This is for a copy of the sixth book in the series, Ballantine's Illustrated History of the Car (Marquee Book No 6), and is focused on the De Dion-Bouton: First Automobile Gianti. Published in 1971. Written by Anthony Bird. 160 pages. Softcover. Perfect bound. Spine uncracked. If this was read, it was very carefully. However, this a 42 year old perfect bound book, and care should be taken when handling this to ensure the continued integrity of the glue used in the binding, as the glue can get brittle over years. Book has rubbing to a couple of places on the covers (see scans), but otherwise looks pretty much new!
Synopsis:
Comte Albert de Dion succeeded to his father's Marquisate early in 1901. By April the firm of De Dion-Bouton had sold 1500 cars, and many hundreds of engines - more than the combined production of the four leading British firms, three times that of the largest American company in that year. De Dion were making the world's first popular production car. Not till the Model-T Ford was there a successful rival.
